Choosing a model
Which Sur-Ron is best for a new rider?+
The best model depends on your size, experience, licence and where you plan to ride. The Light Bee is often the most approachable adult starting point, while larger Sur-Ron models deliver more power and motorcycle presence. MotoEbikes can help you compare them in Guildford.
What is the difference between the Light Bee, Hyper Bee and Ultra Bee?+
The Hyper Bee is the compact option, the Light Bee is the lightweight all-rounder, and the Ultra Bee is the larger high-performance platform. For MY26, Sur-Ron lists the Hyper Bee at 8kW and 39kg, the Light Bee X at 10kW and 59kg, and the Ultra Bee HP X at 24.5kW and 88.5kg. The right choice depends on rider size, experience, terrain and whether road legality is required.
Do MotoEbikes still sell the Sur-Ron Storm Bee?+
MotoEbikes does not currently list the Storm Bee in the current Sur-Ron range. If you are looking for a larger or higher-performance Sur-Ron, compare the current Ultra Bee models or contact our team for current availability and alternatives.
Road legal and licence
Are Sur-Ron bikes road legal in the UK?+
Some Sur-Ron models are road legal in the UK, but not all of them. In the current MY26 range, the Light Bee L1E and Ultra Bee HP T are road-legal versions. The Hyper Bee, Light Bee X and Ultra Bee HP X are sold as off-road models and must not be ridden on public roads unless individually approved, registered, insured and otherwise legally compliant.
What licence do I need to ride a Sur-Ron in the UK?+
The licence requirement depends on the road-legal model’s official vehicle category and continuous power rating, not simply its advertised peak power. In Great Britain, mopeds can fall within category AM from age 16, light motorcycles up to 11kW continuous power fall within A1 from age 17, and higher-powered motorcycles may require A2 or A entitlement. Learner riders normally also need CBT. Check the classification of the exact Sur-Ron model before riding on the road.
What age can you ride a Sur-Ron in the UK?+
There is no single minimum age for every Sur-Ron. For public-road riding, the rider must meet the age and licence requirements for the road-legal vehicle category: category AM starts at 16, A1 at 17, A2 at 19 and unrestricted category A at 21 through progressive access or 24 through direct access. Off-road models may only be used legally on suitable private land with the landowner’s permission, and rider suitability depends on the particular bike and rider.
Range and charging
How long does a Sur-Ron battery take to charge?+
Charging time varies by model and state of charge. Sur-Ron lists the 2026 Light Bee X at about 2.15 hours from 20–80%. The new Hyper Bee 8kW is listed at around 2 hours from 20–80%, while a full 0–100% charge is quoted at around 4.5 hours. Always use the charger specified for the bike and follow the charging instructions in the owner’s manu
What is the range of a Sur-Ron?+
Sur-Ron range depends on the model, rider weight, speed, terrain, temperature and riding mode. Sur-Ron currently quotes up to about 46.6 miles for the MY26 Light Bee X under its stated test conditions, around 56km for the Hyper Bee and around 115km for the Ultra Bee HP X. Real-world range can be lower when riding aggressively or off-road.
PERFORMANCE & EVERYDAY USE
How fast is a Sur-Ron?+
Top speed depends on the model. Sur-Ron currently lists the MY26 Hyper Bee at up to 40mph, the Light Bee X at 50mph, the road-legal Light Bee L1E at 28mph, and the Ultra Bee HP X and HP T at up to 59mph. Actual speed can vary with rider weight, terrain, battery charge and riding conditions.
Do Sur-Ron bikes have gears?+
Current Sur-Ron electric bikes do not use a conventional manual gearbox and clutch like a petrol motorcycle. Power is delivered directly through the electric drivetrain using fixed-ratio drive systems, although the exact belt, chain or gearbox arrangement varies by model. This makes power delivery simple and immediate because there is no manual gear changing while riding. The Light Bee X, for example, uses a primary belt and secondary chain transmission
How much weight can a Sur-Ron carry?+
Maximum carrying capacity varies by model, so check the specification for the exact bike rather than using one limit for every Sur-Ron. As an example, Sur-Ron lists a 100kg / 220lb carrying capacity for the Light Bee platform. Rider weight also affects acceleration, braking, suspension behaviour and real-world range.
CARE, CLEANING & MODIFICATIONSel
Can you ride a Sur-Ron in the rain?+
Sur-Ron bikes are designed with water-resistant electrical components, but they should not be treated as fully waterproof. Current Sur-Ron batteries such as the MY26 Hyper Bee battery use IP67-rated protection, and the Light Bee manual describes its battery pack as water resistant. Avoid deep water, damaged seals and charging in wet conditions, and always follow the owner’s manual for the specific model.
Can you jet wash a Sur-Ron?+
Avoid blasting a Sur-Ron with a high-pressure jet washer. Sur-Ron’s Light Bee owner manual specifically warns against directing high-pressure water at bearings, seals, electrical components, plugs and the battery pack. Use a sponge or soft cloth, mild detergent and water instead, then dry the bike thoroughly and check the brakes before riding.
Are Sur-Ron bikes customisable?+
Yes. Sur-Ron bikes have a large aftermarket and can be customised with items such as wheels, suspension, controls and cosmetic parts. However, modifications can affect reliability, road legality, insurance and warranty. Sur-Ron’s warranty terms specifically warn that non-genuine or unauthorised modifications to the motor, battery, controller and other power-system components may invalidate warranty coverage.

What warranty support is available for Sur-Ron bikes?+
Sur-Ron manufacturer warranty support is available subject to the terms applying to the specific model and purchase. Warranty work should be handled through an authorised Sur-Ron dealer, and owners are expected to follow the maintenance requirements in the owner’s manual. Unauthorised power-system modifications, misuse or failure to maintain the bike correctly can affect warranty coverage.
