Wow, I had a fantastic day playing on electric motorcycles with Lee Robinson, owner of MotoEbikes of Guildford. I got to ride three different styles of electric bikes, but they shared a theme. That being, they are enormous fun to ride.
I have reviewed the two Zero Motorcycles, the FXE, the DSR/X Adventure, and the Ovao MCR. Being able to hop on and off all three motorcycles was brilliant, as I was purely riding for pleasure and not testing the bikes as such. Lee and I were getting some filming and photography done, which you can see on my youtube channel Roadtestsandreviews and across my social media channels and website. I also post films, photos and reviews on my Facebook group, which you may like to join. Roadtestsandreviews.
Ovao MCR-H Mini City Racer.
Equivalent to a 125cc petrol bike. The H is the base model, has a 9.1kW (12bhp) hub motor, 4.8kWh battery and is £9250.
Competition is stiff in the 125 market, and manufacturers make great L-friendly bikes. Sinnis has a wide range of 125 motorcycles, from Cruisers to Adventure models. Honda has their CB 125 R, and Aprilia has the RS 125.
Zero Motorcycles DSR/X Adventure Bike.
A blistering motorcycle with incredible performance and handling is taking on the petrol Adventure bikes such as KTM 890, Triumph Tiger 900 and Suzuki Vstrom 850.
Zero Motorcycles FXE,
The Zero Motorcycles FXE is a Supermoto-style motorcycle with superb fun riding. This bike’s look and power are impressive, resembling a conventional motorcycle. There are two versions of the FXE, one which requires an A1 license and one that requires an A2. I rode the A1 version.
Competition comes from Sinnis the Acuma 125, Yamaha WRX 125X and Suzuki DR125SM.
We also took the bikes to Brooklands museum motorcycle day on 2nd July, which was superb. We rode the electric motorcycles on part of the famous banked race track, where we demonstrated the electric motorcycles.
MotoEbikes also deals with the trendy brand Surron, which produces on and off-road electric motorcycles that are Enduro based. High mudguards and long suspension, with a lightweight frame and plenty of torque, are perfect for fun. You can choose an electric motorcycle that suits your performance requirements as Surron has a wide range of machines.
Competition actually comes from the following two brands that MotoEbikes sells.
For Mopeds, you can look at Horwin, who makes some excellent models. They produce the EK1, EK3, CR6, and SK3 to cover buyers’ requirements and are the ideal solution for urban travel.
Talaria has their Sting R road legal with a new air-cooled motor with a nominal power of 3.5kW restricted for EU regulations and a 33% increase from the original Sting.
Around £5000
Caofen has their F80 at nearly £6000 on the road. The Caofen F80 mid-mounted 72V motor produces up to 8KW output (Approx 11 horsepower), providing up to 260NM of torque at the rear wheel. With the proprietary immersed battery cooling system and intelligent charger, riders can fully charge up from flat in less than 3 hours.
